Just getting to grips with the ‘Pretty Google Calendar’ WP Plugin. Think I’ve got my API key sorted to display calendar in local development environment (unrestricted mode at this stage). Sure enough, it’s drawn a really nice calendar on my page. Problem is, it’s not importing actual events from ‘live’ calendar on Google.

Think this is down to a permissions thing — obviously there’s something missing in the API that’s preventing data from being shared. But I can’t find it. Any tips?

Howdy! WP Beginner has what looks to be a pretty comprehensive Google API walk through: https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-add-google-calendar-in-wordpress/ You might check if you missed a step.

Beyond that it’s hard to speculate what might be the issue.

Thanks for your comments @lbell — I’m quite sure the problem is with my API configuration. I’ve checked through the link you gave me (actually I was working from this already) but I can’t see that I’ve missed anything — basically all I need to do is set up API key and add this to plugin field?

There’s so much stuff in the Google setup like OAuth etc but I don’t think I need to worry about that as I’m not actually MAKING an app, right?

A note that others have mentioned is to make sure you’re using straight quotes instead of curly quotes in the shortcode — apparently copy-pasting from WP Beginner gives you curly quotes which don’t work.

Hi @lbell , sure enough, ‘curly quotes’ was the problem. Changed to neutral quotes and all is good (didn’t even realise that they were ‘curly’!!). Looks really good — better than the Google design for sure!!

Hey @lbell , quick question. Now that my calendar is working correctly — my client wants to display the current day only on their homepage with a link through to the full calendar. With ‘Pretty Google Calendar’ is this even possible? Just asking…
