“No Categories” Problem

  • I’ve installed WordPress today.

    The categories were displaying fine at first. But now they aren’t. I was adding categories, when the server request timed out. When i reloaded, all my catergories had disapeared. I had added about 6 at the time.

    The categories widget says “no categories” and when i go to the admin section, it says there isnt any in there either. Yet, if i try to add a post, the catergories are there.

    I’ve been searching the internet for awhile, with no avail. I repaired my tables, it didnt work. I even dropped all my tables, and reinstalled wordpress. Even the default theme and setup gives me “No Categories”.

    How do i fix this because its driving me insane. First time user of wordpress and its already causing me problems……

  • I think you need to have posts in each category for them to appear, otherwise they won’t show up.

    Stick with WP, you’ll eventually absolutely love it!

    ok, so, i did manage to sort the problem out.

    I made some posts, worked hard for 8 hours today adding content. And now all the tags & catergories are gone again.

    I checked my posts in admin sections, and they’ve all gone to uncatergorized.

    HELP???

    I cant believe this! How do i fix this?? How do i stop this? Twice its happened now? A bug?

    i wont stop posting till someone can help? i dont want to boycot wordpress… as it looks good and i’ve heard lots about it… but this is ridiculas… and apparantley, its not only me who has this problem.

    so is this how the developers of this “great” software choose to be when help is needed. I understand that its free, but, jesus christ, multiple ppl with this issue and you can even be bother to fix or even help with a workaround.

    ok, so i’ve just check all my categories in phpmyadmin… i even took the liberty to pissing go thru all my categories via url,

    wp-admin/categories.php?action=edit&cat_ID=8 (8,9,10,11,etc) and all categories and parent categories are fine…

    anyone recomend something better than wordpress? cuz this is really cheesing me off, cant see what all the fuss is about… =/

    Whoa, slow down there. It’s free software–there’s a great community around WordPress but you can’t expect that you’ll get answers in seconds.

    I’m not expert so I can’t help much, but have your searched through previous posts for answers? Here’s one I found with a quick search:
