No categories showing up on home page nav bar

I changed my template from StyleWP’s sonartech template (old) to StudioPress’s news template (new).

In the “old” (prior to the template change), the nav bar consists of links to pages. I had no categories and posts.

The “new”, has a nav bar consisting of links to pages on the very top, and a second nav bar (below the logo/header) consisting of categories.

Before switching to “new”, I created categories and posts by pasting contents from the old pages. When I switched to “new”, the second nav bar shows “No categories”.
