No change on PageSpeed Monitor

That would really depend on the size reduction of the actual images you smushed.

Can you check your media library to see for how much your image size was reduced, you can also check the total in Media -> WP Smush when smushing is complete.

I used Smushit on all the images in my media library at pondyphoto.com because header images especially were loading very slowly.

Now images take something like 3-5 minutes to load which is definitely NOT an improvement.

What is the problem?

Some of the images were reduced by up to 48% so it is not that they were not compacted successfully.
