It’s been several days since the release of 2.1.0. Particularly considering the breaking changes that were introduced in 2.0.9, a proper changelog seems very important. When can we expect that the changes for 2.1.0 will be published, and can we expect timely (when the WP.org theme update is put out) updates to the changelog in the future without having to ask for them?

As a lifetime paying subscriber, I expect better – but even free users deserve to know what’s changed in updates.

  • Hello @fpcsjames,

The changelog is being updated along with the theme and is present in theme files – changelog.md. You can check it even using the theme editor:

    2021.06.11. - 2.1.0
Added - Check if icon class exist or not from theme icons.
Tweak - Default Theme Icon settings set to "Simple Line Icons" to prevent issues on websites that did not store any theme icons settings in the past.
Tweak - Ocean SVG Icons disabled by default. In order to use the new icons, enable them via Customize > General Options > Theme Icons
Fixed - Icons that require manual selection get deselect on Theme icons change

We really do not control how WordPress displays changelogs for themes and plugins. As for the docs, sometimes the changes get stuck to draft so we’ll check it out. Thanks for bringing to out our attention. We keep the courtesy changelogs in the docs as well because we are familiar that many users are unable to manage within WordPress itself.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions

WP itself and WP.org provide no meaningful way to view update details for themes. Your own docs provide a substitute:

    https://docs.oceanwp.org/article/653-oceanwp-theme-changelog

Unfortunately, this article was not updated for 2.1.0. I’ll reference changelog.md via the SVN repo from now on, but most users will not know to go there, and downloading the latest version and opening changelog.md from there is a couple more steps than should be necessary. Because of the lack of WP-native facilities, your own docs will continue to be the most convenient place for most people who care about the changelog to view it, so ensuring it stays updated (and that your changes to it fully publish) will be great.

    Hello @fpcsjames,

Yes, we understand most users are unable to manage, hence the reason we keep changelogs in the docs as well.

Whenever you notice a problem, you can always report it.

Once again, thanks for the heads up
