    Good afternoon,

After finding out, weird interventions on articles on my website, i decided to use the 2FA pluggin and to change my password to secure the access to my website. I configured the 2FA with your free pluggin with no problem and i asked to receive a code by email to log in my wordpress account. It worked well at first. After that, i decided to change my password and since then i can’t log in because i don’t receive the code on my email anymore. I read your support on other people problems and you told them they could generate back up codes and that all information were here : What are 2FA backup codes? | Melapress. I can’t log in to configurate my back up codes so i don’t know what to do. I called OVH but they don’t know what to do to help me.

Thanks u very much for your help

    Hello caroline0905!

I am very sorry to hear about this experience! That’s a bit unexpected to happen all of a sudden, only after a password change, and it’s something I clearly haven’t heard before being reported, but I am more than eager to assist you on this.

First, to regain access, kindly follow the procedure below:

Step 1: Manually deactivate the plugin: you first need to disable the plugin to be able to unlock your account and log in without 2FA. The process is manual but quite straightforward – all you need to do is rename the plugin’s folder. You can find more information about this process here –?How to manually disable WordPress plugins with no wp-admin access.

Step 2: Log in to WordPress: now that the plugin is deactivated, no 2FA will be required to login. Please log in with your username and password.

Step 3: Reactivate the plugin: using the same process used to deactivate the plugin, rename the plugin folder to its original name. Kindly ensure you stay logged in to WordPress during the process.

Step 4: Refresh your WordPress page, and the plugin will once again become available. Navigate to your WordPress profile page, scroll down to the Two-factor authentication settings section and click on Change 2FA settings. You can now set up 2FA.

To avoid getting locked out in the future, I would highly recommend to set up backup codes as you have already mentioned just to avoid these lockouts;?https://melapress.com/support/kb/wp-2fa-configure-email-otp-2fa-backup/

Once you regain access, kindly let me know if there are still problems, so we can check those as well!

Looking forward to hearing back from you on how everything went!
