• Hi.

I’ve installed wordpress 3.2. I also installed the theme “html5 wordpress shell”. The install is on a local instance of apache.

I logged into wp today to start playing with it. When I log in to the dashboard, I can’t see any widgets in the dashboard. I have no options to do anything.

Under “screen options”, both “wordpress blog” and “other wordpress news” are selected.

How do I get dashboard functionality?

  • Have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

The only plugin in the plugin folder is akismet, which I’ve removed.
    I also removed all themes.

What does it mean to ‘reset the plugins folder’?

    I also removed all themes.

Did you switch to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

Sometimes even deactivated plugins will cause a problem. Reset the plugin folder is done by just renaming it.

Is there a way to actually switch to a certain them when you don’t have access to any functions in the dashboard?

Yes, using ftp or by logging in to your hosted account change the name of the theme you are using. That (assuming you did not delete the other themes) will force wp to open with the default theme.

This is a local install, so fortunately I don’t have to mess around with ssh’ing in to a remote server.

I’ve only got one non-default theme installed. I moved that to a backup dir, expecting wp to fall back to it’s default theme. Whether or not it did, the dashboard remained blank.

I then removed all themes just to see what would happen. The dashboard remained blank.

Sorry, I know nothing about local installs. Someone else might jump in here.

A local install is just the same as a remote one – except that I’ve got more contol, because I can manipulate the file system directly.

i recently went for a HP laptop to a MacBook Pro. When I went to my blog https://www.listentometoday.com and logged into ADMIN, all of the dash board was gone except the administration to where I could change personal information, password, color etc. Nothing else is on the dashboard tool bar on the right. I have tried a number of frivolous attempts to get all back, but have not been able to ….I can not make a post, add plugins … nothing. Prior to switching to over to Apple, I could do any and everything. Any ideas?
