No descriptions in thumbnails anymore?

    I am using basic thumbnails to display galleries within an album. I am no longer seeing the descriptions in the thumbnails. This was very helpful as we have several galleries (kids camp) and need to identify which galleries with not only a title but description as well. Can you tell me how that works now or what we need to do to get the descriptions back? We are on 3.1.1

    Hi @fooey,

    My guess is that’s related with the old templates deprecation. To bring the captions back, you will have to access “NextGen Gallery -> Gallery Settings -> Basic Thumbnails” and select “captions-view.php” for “Legacy (Old) Templates” then “Save Options”.

    I tried that setting and it seems it is a different spot than you mentioned. Here is an image of the settings, https://imgur.com/a/6euMNtZ however it did not work. It still is not showing the descriptions in the gallery thumbnails on the album page. It also did not allow me to select a legacy template after choosing caption-view.php in the select view field. help?

    Hi @fooey,

    Sorry, my mistake. That’s correct, you actually needed to select “captions-view.php” for “Select View” as apparently you have already figured out.

    To mention that the “captions-view.php” will not display the images’ titles but the description captions only, so I’d ensure that there are any descriptions added to the images from “Manage Galleries”.

    There are descriptions in the manage galleries for all of them but they still do not show in the thumbnail. That is what I was explaining to you. It is not working.

    It used to display both the Gallery title and description in the thumbnail. We would like that functionality back. What needs to happen for that to work again, it was removed for legacy but legacy is deprecated and no longer works. It doesn’t make sense.

    I submitted a report however that does not resolve the issue. Are there any other steps to getting this fixed? Do we need to add old templates? Are you able to add this functionality back and why was it removed? Due to the importance of having the description show in the thumbnails for efficiency of organization for our patrons, we may need to look into an alternative if this cannot be resolved. I appreciate your assistance.
