No edit options in admin

  • Created installation in WordPress and was able to update profile, but can’t find an option to edit the index page or create blog. What am I missing? The options don’t seem to exist!

  • Usually you write posts that are displayed as your main page (your blog).

    Might want to review Administering_Your_Blog and some of the WordPress Lessons.

    Thank you for the response. I have read the WordPress tutorials as well as a few other forums on the issue, I understand what they are telling me to do. I completed the “simple installation” and the blog directory was created within the correct domain, however the default blog page is not as the tutorials or any other forum says it should be.

    Since you are just starting, then please consider upgrading or installing a more recent version of WordPress–that link you gave shows a 2.0.1 version.

    My memory may be off, but aren’t there some wrinkles to Netfirms hosting as it relates to WP?

    Or was that just the lack of pretty permalinks support?

    Beautiful! I was starting to suspect that that might be the answer. I am going to remove the old WP now and try installing the updated version.

    How do I determine whether or not I have MySQL 4.0 &PHP version 4.2 or greater?

    “WARNING: WordPress Versions 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and 2.1.3 require PHP version 4.2 or greater, and MySQL version 4.0 or greater! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE if your server does not meet the minimum requirements!”

    You can ask your host what version of MySQL they use or sometimes in phpMyAdmin you can see the version on the right side.

    WP 2.0.1 was included with my hosting package and I cannot figure out how to uninstall the older version or upgrade. I never installed any of the plug-ins, never even created posts in the old version, so from what I can tell, steps 1, 2, 3, & 4 in the “upgrade” tutorial are unnecessary.

    I have all of the necessary specs for the newest version of WordPress.

    What would be the best way to start my WP experience all over again with the new version?

    Don’t ever use the host’s “one-click” install.
    If the previous installation was made in that way and you cannot delete it – ask them to delete both the WP files and to empty the database.
    Then do a manual installation.
