No emails received

Tried to send an email.
Get message to say email was sent, but nothing is received.
Tried various settings.
Cron yes/no,
SMTP yes/no
Whatever I try, don’t get an email.
I’ve installed contact form 7. That can send me an email.
I must be doing something stupid or there would be loads of similar support posts.
