hello – i have used this plugin a number of times – but i get nervous every time as it is so random.

i have just tried to restore a site and it is now hanging at 92%. i uploaded the file to the backup directory to ensure a faster process. yet now it hangs at 92% with no reason as to why – forcing me to refresh the screen, corrupt my version of wordpress and reinstal it again.

i have increased max_execution_time to 30s and memory_limit in PHP to 256M and have more than 2GB spare space for a 140mb site restore.

i cannot understand why this is happening. server is fast and also very reliable.

is there any way you can work in some way of making it clearer as to why a restore will not work?

    :/

    EDIT

i tried uploading for the 4th time. did not change a thing but rather uploaded via the plugin rather than placing it in the folder on the server. this time it worked. so very confusing. i have certainly had it work bu restoring from server – yet without any feedback from the upload window, how am i supposed to know?

    cheers.

    Hi mrcavallo,

    What is your PHP version?
Can you increase max_execution_time to 120?

    hi Pim,

thanks for the offer. i do get it working eventually – i just am not sure why it is so random. i always make sure there is plenty of space on the server and that execution time is set high. my connections are always good and the server has had no interruptions for as long as i can remember.

i find i am double handling a lot with this plugin as i need to reinstal wordpress regardless of the failure reason. it would just be nice not to have to stress so much by way of more informative error windows or reverting back to original version if it fails.

don’t get me wrong – this is an amazing plugin. but for non-technical people it could be more friendly when it comes to trying to find out why restores have not worked.

    thank you.

    Hi mrcavello

Thanks for your feedback. The support team is on hand to help with failed installs. Failures don’t happen very often and are usually related to server settings, plugins, themes or one of these being incompatible with the PHP version. Getting in touch with support helps us discover where the issues are and find out if we need to change a setting on the server, remove an incompatible plugin or improve our plugin

I’ve run into this same problem before. It turned out it had processed the back up; but, there was a plugin that had been updated in the short period of time between my backup being created and the site being restored.

It took lots of man hours to go through and find which one it was. The easiest way to start was temporarily changing the upload folder name, so it became in active. Once I did that, I knew it was a plugin, then you just change the folder name back and go through each plugin individually till you find the right one. I’m assuming the same thing could happen with a theme file, too.
