I followed all the set up instructions and it looked like this was going to be perfect. But it’s not working. The calendar shows up on the page where I inserted the shortcode [vacancy] but all the time blocks are dark gray and no form comes up when I try to click on a time block. I added a reservation in the back end, just to see what happens, and that one does show up. If I click on that one on the calendar, I get the reservation form. How can that be? It’s like it’s working backwards. Can you help? Here is the URL of my page with the shortcode:

    https://eohsi.rutgers.edu/reserve-a-conference-room/

    Thanks,
    Linda

Also, another funny thing… from the backend I can make a reservation, but it does not give an error if I try to book a time where it ends before it begins. however, nothing shows on the calendar. Shouldn’t that produce an error?

Hello there. I’ve taken a look at your site and there are a few things that jump out at me. The first thing is that I noticed is that when I followed the link to view your site, vacancy wasn’t loading. I found that the problem there is the wordpress/vacancy ajax request is using https which throws an ajax error on a non https url. So, I typed in the https and it seemed to show correctly. You may want to get those redirects straightened out?

But for the “not available” greyed out blocks. Can you confirm that you set the availability for the venue you are using? At a glance it looks as if the times have not been entered and saved for the venue which would produce every timeslot to be unavailable.

For the backend conflicts, this was actually done by design. We wanted a way to allow for admins to enter and have record of events that are out of the ordinary for availability or conflict. The system is basically setup to always have new reservations be entered from the frontend page with the shortcode, and then approved/edited by the admins on the backend.

I hope some of that helps, and let me know if the main issue of the greyed out “not available” blocks is resolved by saving the venue availability.

    Thanks

a2rocklobster, thanks so much for the quick response. I did not set availability for the venue – that was exactly the problem. I misread the instructions and thought I was meant to leave all the times blank to make all time available, rather than unavailable. DUH!

The https problem is something I need to talk to my host about. Thanks for pointing it out. That could be a problem.

Now I have it partially working… I have all the calendar areas showing and the form popping up fine, but the notifications are not working. Also the “success message” does not show, so that could be a hint why the notifications don’t work. Could you provide some insight?

    Thanks,
    Linda

    Hello again.

One notification email showed up eventually – took about 15-20 minutes. But the notification to the requester did not show up.

The success message is still not working though.

    Thanks for your help.

I’ve done a test reservation on your site and was able to get the “Success” message above the calendar after my submission.

The notifications are nothing special and just use PHP’s mail function so if there are issues, its most likely more to do with your particular server setup (php version and mail exchange settings) than the plugin.

However, all seems to be working now so that’s good news! Let me if anything else pops up but the original issue on this thread has been solved so this topic will be marked as resolved.

    Thanks for using Vacancy!

Looks like it works ok if I am not logged in to wordpress. Which is not good because this needs to be a page for people who are logged in.

Unfortunately its hard to troubleshoot when I can’t log in to look around. My suggestion would be to go through the settings pages (tabs) and save them all. I did run into an issue a while ago where there where some strange behaviors happening when the settings weren’t saved at least once (and even if blank).

Other than that, there may be something going on with the https or non. Since earlier the plugin wasnt even loading on non https, but now seems to be ok.

Also, make sure that the plugin is up to date (v1.3.1).

Again, thanks for the inquiries but unless these last bit few things work, I’m afraid I’ve hit the end of my troubleshooting for what could be the issue with it not working when logged in. Hopefully it all works out.

    Thanks

I do appreciate your help. I think the issue might actually be about https and I am on to my host about it.

By the way, can you tell me what browser you checked this with? I was good with using Firefox (logged out) but not Chrome or IE.

I was using Chrome while looking at your site

Just wanted to let you know that the plugin is working quite well now. Only issue is that it doesn’t work 100% without using https when logged in.
