• Hi there,

I’m trying to use my logo in place of a title, by using it as a header, hiding the title, and moving the menu below the header.

    Essentially I want:

    (title hidden)
    –Header with logo here–
    –Menu–

I successfully moved the menu following @alchymyth’s advice on this thread.

However, when I preview the child theme, there is no header.

I tried following this advice, though in retrospect, I think it was solving a different issue.

For reference, the only modifications I have made are to the header.php (code on Pastebin). The style.css imports the parent stylesheet and nothing else.

The child theme is not live on my website, but for reference, the address is https://www.will-simpson.co.uk.

I’m completely new to theme modification etc., and have got myself tied up in knots!

    Thanks!

/edited due to mis-explanation of aims.

Title & Tagline need to exist for Google and so on, but you can remove them from view by unchecking “Display Header Text” at Dashboard > Themes > Customize.

Twenty Twelve has no header image to display unless you put one there, and I see you have an image near the top of your site. I do not know precisely how to do all this stuff myself, but I will try help you figure it out, if you wish.

Is it possible to activate the child theme on your site – it’s a lot easier to troubleshoot these kinds of things if we can look at a live version.

Also, theme settings and options don’t transfer from a parent to child theme – it’s just like switching to any other new theme – so it may be that you just need to set the header image in the child theme?

OK, I’ve activated the child theme on the site, having removed the modified header.php which moved the menu. The issue has remained: the “customise theme” page does not offer the option to select a header image. It lists colors, background image etc…

I also tried following this advice about setting a default header again, in hope I had got it wrong last time, but still no joy.

the “customise theme” page does not offer the option to select a header image.

You do not have Dashboard > Appearance > Header?

Thank you, after banging my head not seeing the header image I had set in the parent TwentyTwelve theme, I realised I had to select the Header image again once I’d activated my modified child theme.

Once I activated the child theme, I went back to Themes, and selected the ‘Header’ link next to my activated child theme, chose my image again and it appeared on my site in the correct (modified) place.
