no horizontal cat menu in header and sliding sidebars problem

the website i am working on is ok, there are a few items to solve though. as i use the athaualpa theme it is very easy to create a category horizontal bar in the header. for me it doesnt seem to be working. the bar is a vertical one. how can i fix this ? also i want the sidebars not to align with the center of the pages that are displayed in the body. i want them to align to the header area. and one last : in the body right in front of every post tere is a “;” what is this doing there and how to get rid of this sign ?
