We have installed Advanded Ads, but I’m having trouble styling the different ads blocks because they all have the same CSS class, and there are no IDs being assigned to the sections.

    They looks like this one:
    <section class=”widget sportwidget”><div class=”widget-wrap”></div></section>

It says in the configuration that I can add a word that will be added to classes and IDs. I chose sport, which is clearly being added to the class, but no ID is being created at all.

I appreciate your help in resolving this.

    Thanks!
    Vi

    Hi Viwickam,

    Thanks for opening this thread.

Can you please edit the ad unit where you notice this problem and navigate to the layout settings of this ad unit? You will see a field to specify the container ID there.

Can you please insert “sport” there?

    Best regards,
    Joachim

I’m not interested in assigning a custom ID to every ad, I really only want IDs based on the ad group, or the ad placement.

It appears that an ad group widget gets no ID, and there’s not a way to assign an ID to the group.

It looks like I can manually assign an ID to an ad. And, if I create a placement, an ID gets assigned automatically.

Having the ID assign automatically to the ad and ad group would be very nice functionality to have, and being able to customize them in both areas would also be nice.

I can make it work by adding a placement for every ad group, but it seems redundant to me.

Also, is there any way to add an ID to the widget itself, rather than to an element within the widget? Not being able to address the widget by anything other than a class makes it very difficult to style.

One more thing. I styled the what’s it worth banner, which is the first one in the sidebar using ad placement and container ID, and I still have no way to select each widget individually. :/

    Hi viwickam,

    Thanks for your replies.

“It looks like I can manually assign an ID to an ad. And, if I create a placement, an ID gets assigned automatically.”

When you choose manual placements or sidebar widget placements in the widget, each has a unique class. In the What’s it worth banner example, it is .sportsidebar-1. You can use these different classes to style each widget.

“I can make it work by adding a placement for every ad group, but it seems redundant to me.”

I strongly recommend not to add ads or groups in the widgets but to use placements instead. On the one hand, this simplifies ad management enormously because you can do that entirely from the placement page. On the other hand, certain features (lazy loading, anti-adblock) are only available on placement level.

I noticed that you also opened a similar support ticket last night after replying to this thread. To avoid answering the same question on different channels, I will wait here for now, and the other answer to your ticket will be via our email support.

    Best regards,

The ID is being applied to a structure within the widget, not to the widget itself – even with a placement. There isn’t a way to select each widget individually, only the structure inside of the widget, so there is no way to make some of them 50% width in the sidebar while making others full width.

And, having an ID for each widget is just a good coding practice.

I emailed you back a few days ago, and haven’t gotten a response to that yet, so I’m replying here as well.

Based on your description in the last email I got from you, it does look like the ad grids might be a workaround. It doesn’t appear that Ad Grids is included in Pro? Is it only available in the All access bundle?
