I have an image named H-Amsterdam-Hotel-717-09.jpg; it’s one of a series of images that start with H-Amsterdam-Hotel-717.

When I search for the image in the WP media library by “717”, I see it and the other images with similar names.

Within the search for MLA in the main assistant list, or within a media insert modal in a post or gallery, I get no results when I search for “717”.

Any suggestions on how to filter the search to include searching by a number within an image name?

Thanks for this question, which highlights an MLA enhancement you may not be aware of.

If you enter a number in the enhanced search box it is interpreted as the “post ID” of an item you want to find. MLA will search for an attachment with that ID or a parent post/page with that ID.

If you want to search for an item whose title, etc. contains a numeric string you can put quotes around the number to bypass the “post ID” interpretation. In other words, 717 and “717” are treated differently. I added an image with your example file name to my Media Library and was able to find it by entering “717” or -717-.

There is another plugin called “Media Search” that conflicts with MLA; if you are using that plugin I suggest deactivating it. Here is an earlier support topic addressing that issue, and the original inspiration for the post ID and parent ID searches in MLA:

    Search by Parent

I hope that answers your question and gets you the results you want. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions.
