I don’t know when the problem first appeared because I’ve done an awful lot to my site in the past few weeks. I just remember that images used to appear in the related posts and now they don’t. I’m doing this through Jetpack as I have done from the beginning. I’ve seen Photon mentioned in other posts, but I was told to turn that off a few months ago because it was stopping BackupBuddy from working. I’m pretty sure the images were still there after that.

Hi! It looks like you turned off the thumbnails, actually. Can you go to Jetpack -> Settings -> Traffic -> Related posts and make sure that the “Use a large and visually striking layout” option is turned on?

Let me know if it is!

It is turned on. Always has been. Just checked and it’s still there. Turned it off and then on again, but the images are still missing…

Hmm, that’s odd. This is the 2nd case this week of a Related Post feature being active but not working on the front-end of a site. For reference, here is the other similar thread:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/related-posts-title-doesnt-show-up/

    As I mentioned there:

Also, do you have the ability to set up a staging version of your site? If so, I’d like to test with a default WordPress theme, and also with turning off your other plugins one by one. Something is getting in the way of displaying the title there, and turning things off one at a time is usually the easiest way of finding what’s doing it. Let me know!

If that’s not possible for you, can you switch to a default WordPress theme temporarily, and see if that fixes it? If it still doesn’t, can you turn off your other plugins one by one, until you find the culprit (if there is one)? Thanks!

Is this a good time to mention that virtually all my images come from NextGen galleries? I initially uploaded 711 to the WP media library because I recognised it (having moved from WordPress.com). Then I opted for a theme that uses NextGen, so they were copied over. I had 698 that were unassigned in the library. I also used a plug in to confirm they were all unused. I did ask for advice on this in the forum, but didn’t get a reply. I deleted all the unassigned images a few days ago, but everything on my site works perfectly apart from these related thumbnails. To be honest, I think I noticed the problem before deleting. It’s just that I was too busy with everything else to deal with it at the time ??

Sorry – cross posted. What is a staging version please? If it’s a copy that you can use to test, then I would rather go down that route. I’ve spent ages perfecting my new site and even though I use BackupBuddy every couple of days, I really don’t want to mess with anything now. Thinking about it, can you make use of my latest back up to test somewhere? I should have enough space to set it up in a test folder. The whole site is a tad under 700Mb ??

Hi @zooey999 Getting up a staging site set up would definitely help us troubleshoot the problem.

A staging site is term used to describe the copy of a site used for testing/development – there are some free plugins available to help duplicate your site, here’s one of the most popular ones: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/duplicator/

Once you’ve created the staging site, could you please reach out to us via email and we’ll go from there: [email protected] – Please mention this thread in your email.

I’m afraid I’m not having much luck. The Duplicator doesn’t want to work because my site is too big. I got a “Notice”, carried on anyway, but the builder failed. I’m not sure about doing the database only and moving the rest by hand. I thought about BackupBuddy, but that seems to want me to remove my WordPress installation before I can export, so that’s out as well.

Can you tell me what will happen if I switch to a default WP theme temporarily? I got rid of 2015 and 2016, but kept 2017 in case of problems. I’m using Photocrati and it’s taken ages to get everything just right. I do have the .crati file saved locally, plus I have the settings saved as a Photocrati custom theme. If I can find that again and get everything back, then I’m willing to give it a go.

Hi! In the other thread, it was reported that Testimonials by WooThemes was causing the problem. Do you have that active on your site? if so, can you try deactivating that temporarily?

    Thread Starter zooey999

    (@zooey999)

I wish I did have that to resolve the problem, but I’m afraid I don’t. Would it help if I listed the plug-ins I am using?

    Plugin Contributor Richard Archambault

I figured out the problem, with help from my wonderful colleague. ??

Your posts don’t “include” images as far as Related Posts are aware:

    https://elements.uk.com/wordpress/2017/11/20/a-new-kingfisher/?relatedposts=1

That’s because you are using NextGen Gallery in those posts, and the images that are in the posts do not seem to be attached to the posts as regular images would be, so Related Posts is unaware of their existence. You’re going to have to report this to them:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/nextgen-gallery

We’d be glad to collaborate with them to get this working with Jetpack Related Post. You can tell them to open up an issue with us here:

    Thanks!

Thank you so much to a wonderful team for sorting this out.

I must say that I wondered about that. I started with the basic Nextgen gallery and I’m sure related posts worked. Then about three weeks ago I upgraded to Nextgen Plus. It’s possible I vaguely noticed the problem, but I was making so many changes with gallery styles and light boxes that perhaps it didn’t sink in.

I’ll follow your other link now and report the problem ??

    (@richardmtl)

I’ve subscribed to that thread too, so we’ll see what they say. Thanks for reporting it!

    Not much help ??

I was fiddling around this afternoon and managed to get Shareaholic to display images, although I didn’t like the social media icons and couldn’t get rid of them. I deleted the plugin. Surely this goes against the other reply though? If Nextgen works with one plugin, then surely this confirms there is a problem?

    Plugin Contributor Richard Archambault

    (@richardmtl)

Hmm, I don’t know, to be honest. I’d like to see it if at all possible. Still, Jetpack Related Posts depends on images that are directly attached to a Post. Maybe Shareaholic does something different?

    (@zooey999)

Thank you very much for the advice. I’m busy today, but I will definitely give this a go later ??
