no images included with featured posts on front page

The posts that you want to have as the featured posts, should, of course, have featured image set properly. More about the featured images here – https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-featured-image-or-post-thumbnails-in-wordpress/

If, by any chance, you’re missing the part of customizer where you should set which posts should be featured posts, make sure that you’ve installed and activated Kirki plugin.
You’ll see a notice about it (if not installed/activated) on your Dashboard and in the customizer.
