All my WordPress sites have suddenly become lost as when I go to them I get a “no index file” error message. I set them up about 9 months ago, (There are three sites), and left them for a while until now. Now I discover I am getting the error message on all three sites. If I go into WordPress admin area I can look at the index pages ok? Can anyone advise please?

  • that sounds more like a server error then anything to do with WordPress, mainly because it’s all happened at the same time.

Web servers run off an index file for any directory, and that can be set for the server or by account. Most times it searches for ‘index.html’ then ‘index.php’, etc… but it looks like in this case your hosting comapny has reset something that’s set the index file as only ‘index.html’ so it doesn’t find WordPress’s index.php file and thinks that there’s nothing there.

Contact your hosting company and ask them to fix this for you.
