No italic (either in pages or posts)

Hi,
For purely esthetic reasons (a debatable choice, of course) I sometimes italicize sentences or even whole paragraphs both in pages and posts. While italics are correctly displayed in other themes I’ve tested, they don’t seem to work in Bota. All the passages that have been italicized appear in Roman. I’m now looking for a workaround.
