No language colum in page overview

I have installed the polylang PlugIn but don’t get to see any language columns in the page overview of WP nor any language selector box in the editor. No languages to check are shown in the configuration panel of the overview page. I did configure polylang with 2 languages (De/EN). The language selector could be added to the menu as well.
Has anyone any idea what could cause this – and how to overcome the problem?
