No longer effective against spam

WP-ReCaptcha is no longer effective against spam at all. I was getting dozens of spam mails everyday even with this plugin enabled. Looks like spammers have cracked the ReCaptcha challenge and it has just failed to reinvent itself. It hasn’t even been updated in a long time, raising questions on whether it is even being maintained.

I finally removed this plugin from my system and switched to another plugin WP-Anti-Spam, which uses a totally different way to block spammers. It adds a hidden field in the comment form which is invisible to human users but visible to automated bots because they just look at the form HTML code. This simple trick is enough to block the “dumb” bots and at the same time relieves genuine users of the trouble of typing in the captcha response.

NOTE: I am not here to promote WP-Anti-Spam. There are many other such plugins which work on the same concept. You can go for any one of them.
