• Since updating to 5.0 our site is no longer automatically showing updated content for logged-out users. For instance, if we post to our site in Chrome and manually empty the cache, the site updates still don’t show up if we browse the site as a logged-out user in a different browser or on mobile.

Waited 24 hours to see if changes finally showed and they don’t. Emptied the cache several times and emptied Cloudflare cache but the issue persisted. The only way to get the changes to show is if we hit the refresh button, and we don’t want/expect our users to hit the refresh button whenever they revisit our site.

This was not an issue prior to updating Proxy Cache Purge and we can’t seem to be able to fix it.

Unfortunately we don’t have a backup of the previous version and Dreamhost doesn’t allow us to individually choose which parts of our site we want to recover from a backup. Is there a place/way to download the previous version of the plugin so we can do a manual rollback until this is solved?

    You can download https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/varnish-http-purge.4.8.1.zip

The older version is unlikely to work either since you mentioned CloudFlare and there’s a known issue with flushing and CloudFlare on DreamPress that 5.0 directly fixed.

Are you using APO with Cloudflare?

Wait, the refresh button on their browser?

FYI we just updated things at DreamHost (last night) and most Cloudflare issues are resolved.

You can also try the BETA 5.0.1 – https://github.com/Ipstenu/varnish-http-purge/archive/refs/heads/REL_5.0.1.zip – I’m trying to trim the fat and speed it up.

Yes, this exact issue. The cache does not purge automatically for repeat visitors when content is updated/changed. Even if you manually purge cache using this plugin, it serves the old content when you visit the page again. That is until you manually refresh the page in your browser. This goes for each and every page.

Not every visitor is going to refresh each and every page manually in order to get the latest content.

Also, I don’t think it is Cloudflare and varnish issue. It is just a varnish issue because I completely disabled CF on my site and the issue still exists.

Varnish is very poorly implemented on Dreampress servers. You should have a beta program before making such a major change, like every other piece of software has.

@sarangsss29 I’ll look into this as well, but the ‘good’ news is it’s not a Plugin issue.

We did a lot of testing with varnish before rolling it out, and for the vast majority of users it worked without issue and boosted speed performance significantly. We do recognize that there were outliers who have had issues, and we’re still working hard to solve each issue as they come in.
