We have this plugin on a client site where I am the admin, but the client does all of the posting and comment moderation. It’s worked just fine up until today.

The only thing that’s changed recently on this site is that over last weekend, we migrated the hosting of this site to Cloudways, which has varnish caching running. With that have anything to do with why I might have gotten the comment moderation email today?

Anything else I should be checking on? Suggestions for troubleshooting appreciated.

  • Hi, no I would be very surprised if the (front-end) cache would have such an effect. All happens on the back-end with this plugin…

Did you upgrade WordPress during the migration maybe? Which version are you using? I must admit I have not verified the plugin for the latest version(s) so this will be a good opportunity to check it ??

And does the author him/herself get an email too or is it only to site admin now?

Other question: do you get any errors in the server/host log file?

The WP version didn’t change, but the PHP version might have gone from 7.3 to 7.4. Would that make a difference?

I’m not sure about the author yet, I am assuming he got them.

I’m thinking it’s back to working as I only got one email notification, but three comments came in today…? That’s weird behavior.

I have not tested the plugin for a while now, but I’d be surprised if the PHP version would have anything to do with it. The plugin itself is fairly simple and only uses WordPress hooks.

Weird indeed that it would stop working and then start again. I have no idea how to explain such behavior.

I’ll test the plugin for any incompatibilities with PHP 7.4 though…

It turned out to be an error with our staff. We create posts with content submitted by the client, and our staff are supposed to change the author to the client, who then gets all the comment notifications and manages those. Staff forgot this last step.

Sorry for any confusion! Looks like the plugin is still working as it should. Thanks!

    Excellent news ??
