no mails sent for all wpcf7 when plugin is activated

as soon as the plugin is activated, wpcf7 doesn’t send any e-mails anymore, even if there’s not even a file field in the form. it’s just spinning the processing-icon and doing nothing.
the file upload itself is working, files appear in their folder.
