No media:content tag

    I’m stumped. I’m using this plugin on 3 sites and getting different results.

    When viewing the RSS feed code in Chrome (not with the extension, just the raw code), I can see that one site has the media:content tag, which is what MailChimp uses for the featured image.

    The other two sites do not have that tag.

    I’m using the same template in MC for all 3 sites to send the RSS to email.

    I use the same image for embed in the post as I do for featured image.

    The site with the media:content tag is delivering two images.
    One of the other sites is delivering one image.
    And the other site is not delivering any image at all.

    Stumped as to how to test further without actually sending an email.

    One of the sites is a test site, so can send emails to it and I’ll be the only one to get them. It is one that does not have a media:content tag.

    Suggestions?

  • Your RSS feed could be modified by my plugin, another plugin, the theme, or any combination of the above.

    My plugin doesn’t yet support media:content tag, maybe it’s being added by some other plugin or the theme?

    I’m working on adding more features to it, but it shouldn’t be required, there are lots of people using Mailchimp, just don’t use the feed:item, use *|RSSITEMS:|* and *|END:RSSITEMS|*, with some CSS for the image. Works great.

    I’m using RSSITEMS to start and end the feed section.
    According to MailChimp support, that media:content tag is what is required to show the image. Since I’m getting such wildly different results, there’s obviously more to it than that.

    What tag does your plugin provide that is being picked up by MailChimp? I can’t see that it’s getting the featured image specifically. Looks more like perhaps it’s picking up the embedded image.

    With or without the plugin, this is a super tough thing to troubleshoot, with so many different tags involved between the theme, the plugin, and MailChimp.

    I’ll keep running tests on all three sites to see if I can narrow down what is doing what, but have to wait at least a day in between tests, as the MailChimp test email does not pick up an image. Just sends a sample, not an actual post. So have to wait until it picks up an actual post.

    Here’s the really odd thing. Looking at the feed on FireFox, or with the Chrome extension shows the image on all three sites. So, definitely more to it.

    Are you still planning on implementing the media:content tag?

    I’ve looked into adding it, but it’s currently still not supported. I plan on revisiting this in the next week or two.
