My pages menu does not display on my top level page (homepage, which has four children) but it does display on its child pages (who have children of their own). And no, I do not have the homepage excluded.
Even weirder, when I select ‘Always Display Child Pages’, the menu does not appear at all at any level!
I’ve tried just about any combination of settings and I’m lost.

    Hello,

The first issue is being caused because home is not considered a page by WordPress but in fact is considered “Home” or “Front” so the menu will not show up on the homepage even if there are child pages.

The second issue is likely caused because the “Levels to Display:” option is set to 1. If you bump that up to a higher number you should see the child pages.

    Hope this helps!

Hi Mat, Thanks for the instant response.

First issue: I see. And wonder if that’s a programmer’s choice or just how things work, because it doesn’t make much sense to me.
Other than that, I’ve done some experimenting and it seems that any top level page suppresses the menu, so it’s not just the homepage.

Second issue: I set the Levels to 5, but still no menu anywhere when ‘Always Display’ is selected.

It may a compatibility or themes issue, but anyway I’ve found another plugin that does the trick for the top level pages, so I’m not as lost as I was.

    Cheers, Leo
