  • Q: Does Google ever use the “keywords” meta tag in its web search ranking?

Matt Cutts: In a word, no. …. Our web search (the well-known search at Google.com that hundreds of millions of people use each day) disregards keyword metatags completely. They simply don’t have any effect in our search ranking at present.

Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

Hey @alexandermp, I’m sorry your first experience with TSF is poor — I’ll try my best to change your mind about this plugin ?? You are not the only one missing meta keywords, we discussed this topic recently.

There is a couple major reasons, why TSF doesn’t support meta keywords:

    1. As @pidengmor stated, Google disregards keyword metatags completely.
    2. Yahoo followed the suit the same year.
    3. Bing uses meta keywords — but only to penalize you.

The links I’ve sent you are fairly old, since the topic of meta keywords is considered closed from 2009. However, if there is some search engine or any other benefit of using them, please let us know. Including this functionality in TSF would be fairly simple, but as far as I know, this would have 0% impact on your SEO/rankings.

In fact, including meta keywords would probably hurt SEO of TSF users, as Bing uses meta keywords as a SPAM factor. It is worth nothing, that other major WordPress SEO plugins are not using meta keywords either.
