It seems, that despite all of the labelling stating so that it’s now impossible to install a free version of the plugin as it has a dependancy on the pro install? It clearly states on your website there is still a free version and one other thread i saw has the same issue??

This in ambiguous labelling. If the free version for evaluation / testing no longer achievable? Is there a way to manage the detection of the acf_pro class for trial and testing?

    Hi,

Advanced Forms has always been a dependency of ACF Pro. This is mentioned in the first paragraph of the plugin description.

Advanced Forms Pro ships with additional features.

It clearly states on your website there is still a free version and one other thread i saw has the same issue??

    This in ambiguous labelling.

Could you please clarify what labelling you consider to be ambiguous? I’ll make adjustments if necessary.

Could you also please link me to the other thread mentioned for additional context?

    Cheers,
    Phil

Thanks, apologies if this came across as abrasive, not ny intention. I understand that ACF *pro* needs ACF as a dependency however it doesn’t seem to be possible to install the free version any longer?

Additionally on your website, the link to download the “free” version does not download anything but but the pro version, which of course needs a full license to operate? If i’m installing this incorrectly, how to i obtain the free version, please?

    Hi,

From that screenshot, I assume ACF either isn’t installed or the free version of ACF is installed. Advanced Forms will show this message in both scenarios as it can only be used with the pro version of ACF.

I might be misunderstanding what is happening here so more information may be needed for me to help but I’ve put together a video to try and help explain:

If I’ve completely missed the mark here, let me know which versions and which tiers of plugin you are trying to use so I can get a better understanding.

    Cheers,
    Phil

Thanks SO much for putting that explainer together, Phil. Ir’s rare that support from any plugin author is given at this level let alone what i now realise is a silly question! ??

TO conclude then, i think the following is true, and due to this then i will need tp buy a license regardless. Apologies if the “ambiguous” caused you any grief!

    1. My intention is to create a fair sized form that will enable a visitor to arrive at the page, go through all of the fields, required, optional etc then submit this to the site owner. For talking sake we can use something like the requirement to hire a commercial vehicle etc.
    2. ACF Isn’t a fully fledged form creation tool, akin to something like Contact Form 7, WP Forms etc?
    3. Even if i install the “free” plugin from the WP repository then it will still require a paid license?

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to answer. It’s very much appreciated.

    You’re welcome.

ACF isn’t quite that out of the box. Advanced Forms adds a bunch of features to help with this but many of the popular form plugins have more features available by way of additional add-ons.

Generally speaking, Advanced Forms adds a convenience layer and provides strategic hooks and filters to take it even further through the use of custom PHP snippets.

Even if i install the “free” plugin from the WP repository then it will still require a paid license?

If you buy an ACF Pro license, you won’t need the ACF free version at all as the pro version is a replacement for the free version. To use Advanced Forms (free or pro) you will need a pro version of ACF, though.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Phil
