• So, I spent 16 hours yesterday trying to clone my website on my ftp (godaddy), and it failed miserably. Didn’t work at all. So, I figured I would use multisite to make a site, then copy over the data into it’s new folder for the new site, along with the sql data, to try and make a clone that way.

    It didn’t work.

The multisite install went fine, but after I told it to create the new site, nothing happens. It says the new site is created, and asks if I want to go to the dashboard for it, but when I do it takes me to https://rosemontmissions.org/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Frosemontmissions.org%2Fwp-admin%2Fuser-new.php%3Fupdate%3Daddnoconfirmation&reauth=1 and puts me in a login loop. Also, if I click the visit my website button, it just takes me back to the original site and says it couldn’t find that page.

Actually, I just found out that the paragraph above is because I forgot the folder I had used when trying to clone was titled “notlive,” and it was that installation that was going into a loop. I renamed it to get it out of the way, and now even if I go to “rosemontmissions.org/notlive/wp-admin” it just says it couldn’t find the page. So if anyone can help with multisite that’d be great, or if someone can tell me why the clone is in a redirect loop that’d also be awesome. Either one.

I also checked on the ftp, and there isn’t a new subdirectory or anything to show for multisite, so I have no idea where to copy the files into. Anyone have any idea what to do?

The folders are virtual. You know how you don’t actually get a folder or file called ‘about’ when you make a page called about on your site? Same concept.

    What’s in your .htaccess?

I should point out … this is a bad way to do it. It would be MUCH easier just to make a new folder and separate install.
