All my image galleries have just lost the next and back arrows but they do enlarge on click. The images in the editor are set to link to image file. According to a post dated 4 weeks ago, another user was advised to: If you want the plugin to behave as it did before, and detect only images explicitly set to open media files, then go to Lightbox > Images, and look for the “Apply to” settings, and change it from “All Images” to “All Image Links”. Problem is I can change the setting to “All Image Links” but when saving, it reverts back to “All Images”. I have the “Show the gallery navigation arrows” ticked.

    Grateful for your help.

    Hi @ukandrzej

I can see the issue on your site with no nav arrows.

The setting for “All Images” to “All Image Links” would not nav arrows. That only determines which images open in the lightbox. As is, all your images are opening in the lightbox, so that setting is non relevant.

What’s happening is that it is not associated the images as being together as a gallery. It’s seeing each image as a lone image.

Can I ask how the gallery is added to the page? Is it via the block editor with a gallery block? Or is it via shortcode?

If shortcode, can you copy the code here?

I use the block editor to add the gallery. I add a columns block set to one column and add the gallery block inside. This problem started today
after I opened the Fancybox settings to experiment with the image settings like fade etc etc. I have one other private (noindex) site. This was also fine until I opened the Fancybox settings. Immediately the galleries lost their navigation.

Upon further testing, I have got it to work. There seems to be a problem with the Automatically group images setting which needs to be set to WordPress galleries only. Upon pressing Save, the galleries work with next and back navigation. However, I notice that the set to WordPress galleries only setting is not saved and defaults to Disabled. The galleries continue to work with navigation but fail if the Easy Fancybox settings are accessed again.

    Hi !

I had the same kind of problem. Arrows disappear when editing the plugin options. (set to pdf and img)

And you gave me the solution.

    Thank you.

I go to the plugin settings and set the options I want and press save. Importantly, if you have more than one setting to change, set your changes in one go and only then press save. After I set my changes, I notice some setting changes are lost. As long as you exit the plugin without making further changes, your galleries have navigation arrows. If you want images that are not in galleries and if you don’t want those images to be clickable, do this: Go to Lightbox > Images, and look for the “Apply to” settings, and change it from “All Images” to “All Image Links”. Then, in your post editor, ensure you remove the hyperlink setting. Those images are then not clickable. Also make sure your Automatically group images setting needs to be set to WordPress galleries only, assuming you are using the core WordPress gallery.

It’s quite some time since I reported and still waiting for a fix.

Hi @ukandrzej – Oh sorry! I actually saw just the first part your message above and thought you’d gotten this working. I need to read more thoroughly.

Thanks for the more detailed review above. Given your report and the second report from @7ulien, I will make time today to look at this today.

I will post here when I have an update, and will plan to release a fix this week.

Hi – Just wanted to follow up. I figured this out and prepped a fix. I’m planning to release version 2.2.6 tomorrow which will include the fix. Once you update, feel free to confirm the issues you are both having are fully resolved.

If you are using Pro, I prepped an associated fix and will also release tomorrow, so plan to update both free and pro. (There won’t be any serious issues if you don’t also update Pro, but it’ll work more seamlessly if both are updated).

    Thanks.

Decided to push this release this evening. So feel free to update and test anytime.

Aspect that has been fixed after plugin update.

FancyBox Classic: Images. Automatically group images > choose WordPress galleries only. This settings stays intact upon saving.

Aspect that has not been fixed.

FancyBox Classic: Images. Apply to All images. Change to All image links. Press save. Reverts back to All images in settings.

Images not in a gallery that I do not want to link to a bigger image, works as intended. Galleries have navigation arrows.

Now, reopen FancyBox settings and only press save.

Images not in a gallery that I do not want to link to a bigger image. They again link to media file so not fixed. To fix this I have to go back to FancyBox settings and reapply the setting Images. Apply to All images. Change to All image links. Press Save. Fixed.

In other words, if I go back to the plugin settings and just press Save, the stand-along images again link to their media file.

My thoughts about the plugin settings. I have no idea what the implication of Choose Lighbox Version means. Mine says FancyBox Classic Reloaded. This means nothing to me. There should be a ? mark which when hovered over should give a full explanation of exactly what this and the other drop down settings mean. Alternatively, a link to the plugin’s documentation page leading straight to an explanation of this setting. My problem with the documentation is that to the average user such as me, the explanations keep me guessing as to exactly what is being described. That last aspect applies to all of the documentation page.

Hey @ukandrzej – Thanks for the detailed follow up. There is a lot in your reply.

    1) On documentation. I actually agree. Easy Fancybox has complex settings that are hard to understand, and the documentation needs a major overhaul. Related to this, many of the options could use in-line explanatory notes directly on the settings page. Working on both of those.

    2) On the Choose Lightbox setting, I must admit I this one was clear. It’s just ‘which lightbox do you want’. It may be confusing because Fancybox Legacy vs Classic Reloaded vs V2 are nearly the same. I’ll consider adding a small explanatory note. I’m also considering adding an additional, free, non-“Fancybox” lightbox like PhotoSwipe.

    3) Good to here the Automatically group images setting is working.

    4) On the ‘Apply to’ setting, I didn’t realize that wasn’t saving too. That was working like 2 weeks ago, so not sure what I did, but I can duplicate. I’ll start on a fix tomorrow morning, and will include it in the next release.

Thanks again for your diligent reporting.

@ukandrzej – Just pushed a release (2.2.8) that should resolve remaining issues with this batch of settings that haven’t been saving correctly. Please feel free to update, test, and let me know if you have any additional issues.

I’m going to go ahead and resolve this thread on the assumption it is now fully resolved. Obviously, if you still find some issue, I’ll continue to work on it. Thanks!
