No notifications using User Submitted Posts

Hi,

I’ve taken over a site that uses User Submitted Posts(USP). Notifications work fine when posted from the backend, and when the posts are set for moderation (presumably because they then go to the backend?) However when USP is set to publish immediately no notifications are sent.

I’ve set up notifications for New Posts and New Private Posts. Should I be setting up a different type of notification? Is this something BNFW should be picking up or is it likely an issue with USP?
