• I have created a new WP blog in a subdomain and no one can comment unless they are registered. They get an error page with the msg:

Error: please fill the required fields (name, email).

The ‘Comment author must fill out name and e-mail’ in Options Discussions is ticked.

I have several WP blogs all running V2.03 and have never experienced this before.

Are there issues about using subdomains perhaps?

  • No, it doesn’t require to register/login.

It wouldn’t show the form if logging in is mandatory.
However, look at the bottom of the page – you have an error. Correct it.

(And asking for their name and email – it means they didn’t fill it out as required.)

    Thanks Moshu.

I found out the problem. With the ‘Subscribe to Comments’ plugin, there is an option to add a ‘Subscribe without Commenting’ field by adding a line in comments.php. I had put the line inside the comments form container when it should have been after the close form line.

    Thanks again for your help.
