    Good morning.

I’m having trouble getting Facebook to generate a preview of my website. I’ve scraped the site using the debugger tool, and while it’s showing a link preview in the debugger, the preview doesn’t come up when I share the link in messenger or a post. I’m also getting the following message in the debugger:

The following required properties are missing: fb:app_id

When I go into my Yoast, there’s no option to input a Facebook App ID. I read on another post it could be a third party plugin that’s disabling this option, but I can’t figure out which plugin would be causing this problem.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The recent release v15.5 removes support for the Facebook App ID, as Facebook has indicated this feature is deprecated on their side.

We hope you find this information helpful.

I’m trying to find any documentation online about the deprecated Facebook app_id to understand the reason you removed it. Is there any information/link you can share?

    Hi,

This is what we believe to be a silent depreciation. As best as we can tell, it does not actually do anything anymore. It was a legacy tag that powered the Facebook Domain Insights and API feature which was used to help gather metrics about a page.

However, this Facebook feature is no longer available. It has been replaced by Facebook Pixel.

Indeed, while Facebook still has documentation up here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/platforminsights/page/, if you click on the Insights Dashboard link at the bottom you are taken to a screen that says it is not available. See image: https://ibb.co/db71YkQ.

As a result, the warnings you get in Facebook’s debugger tool can be ignored as it is no longer required and we dropped support for it.

Ah, thank you for your answers. The preview is actually showing up fine now, so I don’t know what I was doing wrong before. Thanks for clearing this up!
