  • From your SO screenshot, it seems the “rectangular box” you see is actually an image — a blank/white image. So my theory is that a logo has been uploaded already… that’s why you don’t see the button to upload a logo.

Click the three vertical dots on the right of the logo toolbar. If my theory is correct, then you should see an option to Replace the existing blank/white image.

@gappiah Thanks for your reply. The white box is automatically inserted with insertion of site logo block. I myself did not upload or insert it. I looked expanding the three dot area & There is no replace option.

I just set up a brand-new site to test this out:

    WordPress version: 6.3.1
Theme: default Twenty Twenty-three, no modifications.
    Plugins: none

Below is how I see the Site Logo block, which is the expected behaviour.

It seems this is not what you’re seeing, and I have no clue again at this point what may be causing this behaviour.

@gappiah Thanks again. From several tutorials & articles I came to know the expected behavior should be as you said but in my case it is not working alike. I also created another brand new website but the outcome is same. I am using free hosting with domain, may it be a cause? I am wondering & can not get rid of it.

Yes, it’s your free hosting provider that’s causing the problem.

I set up a site with them (after going through all sorts of hoops) and I have the same experience: the Site Icon block’s upload button never appears.

And taking a peek under the page, I see all sorts of errors in my browser’s developer console (see screenshot below).

In contrast, you may create a temporary test site here to test this out, and you’ll see the Site Icon button will work as expected: https://instawp.com/

@gappiah, I tried a test site as your suggestion & found working. So the problem is free hosting. Thanks a ton for your nice cooperation to resolve it out.

I have the same issue but I’m using Hostinger (paid) and I’m not getting any errors in the console. Do you guys have any idea why this might be?

@rh79 I also placed an image as a “solution” I just don’t know why this issues is and as mentioned I use payed hosting.
