No pages or posts (or anything) gets created

    When I try to create new posts/ pages or upload media onto my wordpress, nothing gets created on my server.

    However, they show up on my index page.

    Please take a look:

    If you click on the page or post link, it says
    “Not Found
    The requested URL /project/please-work-wp/ was not found on this server.”

    Even the “Sample Page” and “Hello World” post are not showing up.

    I’m not sure where newly created pages go on the server, but when I check under wp-content, there’s only the index.php

    Note: I don’t know if the following might have contributed to the problem. I uploaded wp twice. First time, I uploaded and installed wp, but wasn’t able to upload media. I deleted wp from my ftp and re-uploaded it. But since I didn’t delete the tables in the database, I didn’t need to install it the second time.

  • Hmm…this sounds like pretty much the same problem I’m going through, so instead of creating a new post, I’m just going to append my pre-typed post below…

    And I, too, uploaded twice and didn’t reinstall. (Maybe it’s a blessing that I found this post, then, if that turns out to be the case…)

    I’ve searched for the answer to this question on here and other sites, but everything that has been suggested doesn’t seem to work.

    So I’m bringing this to you in hopes you can help.

    I’m a novelist and I’m trying to create a site to promote myself, my books, etc. I have a post page setup for my home page, as I thought a “news feed” would be a good idea for a landing page. (And I didn’t really have any other ideas for a home page.) I created static pages for my biography, the books I’ve published, etc., but none of them work! Not when clicking on the nav bar, nor when putting the link into the address bar directly.

    * Disabled plugins: no change
    * Disabled widgets: no change
    * Switched to both Twenty-Ten and Twenty-Eleven: no change

    Is there another suggestion that’s been posted that I might be missing? The site in question is https://www.dayanararyelle.com, by the way.

    (And no, I’m not going to be as silly as those other people that say “WordPress sucks!” It looks like it’s going to be a very nice site that is very easy to manage, if I can ever get it going. The only way WP is going to suck is if that none of us can find a solution and I have to give up and switch over to a mediocre site I’m creating with Yahoo’s SiteBuilder. T_T)

    Dear DRyelle I think I found the problem
    You changed your permalink settings just like I did. Mine didn’t work after I changed that setting.

    My .htacess file didn’t get created.
    I didn’t follow through the instructions to make my Permalinks work though… I simply changed them back to the default and now they are working..

    OMG, antelopeyip, it worked! I went halfway down the page to where it said “Permalinks without mod_rewrite”, changed the custom structure from /%postname%/ to /index.php/%postname%/ and it WORKED!
