Hi there, I set up a WordPress blog at my hosted site https://deliciouslyfictitious.com a week ago. I have a couple of pages and 1 post so far only. I’m using Wasteland theme with a few widgets.

My permalinks show as https://deliciouslyfictitious.com/?pageid=7 for pages, and https://deliciouslyfictitious.com/?p=25 for posts (for example). I want to use “pretty permalinks” but when I click on Settings>Permalinks no options come up at all. The page is completely blank. The same thing happens when I click the “Change Permaliks” button in the Edit Page or Edit Post pages.

I’ve scoured the forum but couldn’t find my specific problem. I’ve read the various Codex docs on Permalinks but I don’t know what they require me to do – or if my problem is just a settings thing or a faulty WordPress installation etc. Can someone please help – in layman’s terms! I am totally new to all this (probably why the Codex instructions for Permalinks don’t mean mumch to me!)

    Thank you!

have you got any plugins active? you may need to deactivate them to see if that fixes it.

I had a few activated but I’ve deactivated them all now except Askismet and Typekit. Still no Permalinks options showing in Settings.
(I didn’t know whether deactivating those would mess them up in some way or not. Also I don’t think it is them as I am fairly sure the problem was happening before I added them.)

I’ve been reading a lot about .htaccess and mod_rewrite – are these things I need to change settings for/do something with? I don’t actually know what they are or where to start! The Codex was a bit too technical and I wound up thoroughly confused…

well typekit the plugin looks like it is only compatible upto 2.8.6, so might be worth deactivating that as well.

If all fails you may need to reupload WordPress in case something is missing.

Ok deactivated that one too – still no love. I noticed the Settings>Permalinks page is loading with the ‘Done with errors’ symbol at the bottom. When I click on it I get the following error message:

    ***
Message: ‘null’ is null or not an object
    Line: 60
    Char: 1
    Code: 0
    URI: https://deliciouslyfictitious.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php
    ***

Does this mean anything to anyone??

    sorry that doesn’t help much.

    Hurrah! It’s fixed!

As suspected it had something to do with the settings my host https://www.crazydomains.com.au had in place. Apparently they had to allow mod_rewrite access. They told me:

On your server we had disabled SQlite extensions.

So I created php.ini file in ‘wp-admin’ folder to enable pdo_sqlite.so.

That means nothing to me, but I’m posting it in case it means something to someone else down the track…
