    Hi there,

After updating WordPress and installing a new theme onto my site, all of my pictures on my posts disappeared. This is awful, since I had quite a lot of them. It only shows this small “picture icon”, even on the media gallery it won’t show any of the previously updated pictures, only the icon and the ones I uploaded after. I would need to re-upload all of them (I don’t even have all of them still on my computer).
I would like to avoid doing a reset to an old backup, as I have worked on a completely new theme today and made lots of changes, which is why I don’t even know when exactly it started not showing the pictures anymore (I guess after uploading the demo content). Is there any other way I can get my pictures back?

  • Did you try switching back to your original theme? I’d try to first to determine if the images are gone.

It’s not likely that images would be removed by a new theme or by updates.

If would be helpful to see the site and the broken images on the page. That would explain the path to the images.

No I didn’t try to switch theme as I wasn’t sure what was going to stay from the things I’ve worked on today… I just figured it’s only the newest posts from February til now, the older ones still have their pictures on.
The site is https://www.chayleen.com – I disabled my offline modus for a couple of minutes so one can see.

Here is an image path from first image on home page
    https://chayleen.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/collage-1.png

You should check the web files to see if that image is still there. If so, the permissions might be incorrect. You can check this using ftp or by using the file manager in your hosting cpanel. If you don’t know how to do either of those, then contact your host to find out. If those files are actually missing, then if you have backups, you could look in the backup in /wp-content/uploads/2017/05/ and look for collage-1.png

    Did you move the site?

    Also,

I looked on this page: https://chayleen.com/2015/08/14/summer-in-paris/

The images are missing but they seems to be hosted on WordPress.com. Are you using jetpack cdn? the jetpack cdn stores your files on WordPress servers

This is from the summer-in-paris page
    eg: https://chayleen.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/08310059.jpg

This is a different issue than the one on your home page. The missing images on your home page are stored /wp-content/uploads on your site.

That first link you sent me is a post from the theme demo, I have deleted it as of yet, since I stopped editing it, not knowing whether I have to reset to an old backup. And yes that Summer in Paris page was from back when I was still running on WordPress.com but I will deal with that. It is just my personal posts from after February where the pictures are gone.

And the missing images are not even stored on /wp-content/uploads… Only from February and then starting today again.
