    Hello,

I just moved from wordpress.com to my own instance of wordpress, and I have an issue with pingbacks and/or Trackbacks (actually I’ve tried only pingbacks up to now as far as I see it). They just don’t appear. I tried to and from from my old wordpress.com blog. But I can neither get a pingback on my self hosted blog, nor on the wordpress.com blog. I looked trough some random logfiles on the server, but honestly, I have no idea where to start searching and for what.

As far as I understood it, pingbacks are a core part of wordpress and I do not need an extra plugin, is that right? If I do need a plugin, please do tell me which one.

The self hosted blog I am speaking about is reachable here:

    https://blog.debenny.de

    Thanks for any help.

First in your Dashboard go to Settings–>Discussion. Check that the following box is checked: “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)”

See if that does the trick

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I’ve had the allow from other blogs ticked as well as the try to notify other blogs. I should have mentioned this, sorry.

    Doesn’t do the trick. ??

Have you tested pingbacks on both new and old posts?

Under posts, quick edit a post and check to see if “Allow pings” is selected.

I wrote new Articles every time. But when I now looked under “allow pings” it was always selected.

I also thought it might have been some Plugin I have and disabled quite a few (breaking quite a bit of the functionality), but still no pingbacks.

Okay, I deleted the install dropped the database, installed new and still: I cannot send pingbacks. Meanwhile I can at least receive them.
This already worked when I moved the plugins folder to another place before the new install. Strange thing is, receiving didn’t work on the old install, when I deactivated all plugins, I had to rename the folder.

But now I have a new install, no plugins, and still, I am not able to send any pingbacks. ??

Okay, now I saw one plugin coming through after a real long time. Seems like there must be some kind of queue. Woud be nice to see whether there is anything in the queue or when pingbacks are finally fired…

You said you saw one plugin coming through–I assume you mean pingback?

    Who is your host?

    (@tonnerkiller)

Yes, pingback, sorry. I have my own virtual host.

I switched wp-cron off in the config and by invoking wp-cron.php manually it seems to work. Except pingbacks to articles on the same blog, but I could live with that. I gave php some more memory and execution time as well.

Next I’ll try to use the system crontab to send out the pingbacks.

Correction, it doesn’t work ay more invoking manually. Seems it just appeared to do so.

Next correction: It works some times. I invoke about 15 times and then there i one invokation that needs longer, after that one pingbacks are sent to other blogs, still not to articles in the same blog.

Update: I switche from wordpress cron to real cron, like explained here (https://www.wlabs.de/1026/wordpress-auf-echten-cronjob-umstellen/), now outgoing pingbacks seem to work.
