• Product page titles and page content are only loaded with Javascript. No Real SEO. Moreover, they try to do multilingual translation on the same URL. Google won’t love the results.

    (@ecwid_team)

    Hi there!

This is Daria from the Ecwid team. Thanks a lot for your feedback, I’m really sorry you have such impression about our product. Let’s try to sort that out.

Ecwid plugin for WordPress has all SEO features as built-in functionalities, which allow Ecwid product and category pages to be natively indexed by search engines. The plugin inculdes the SEO-friendly URLs for Ecwid pages, generates the meta tags and produce microdata markups (SEO-friendly format recommended by Google) for product and category pages, so all of the Ecwid products in our plugin are marked up according to Google requirements right in the source code of the page. If you visit any product page of Ecwid store and inspect the code, you will see that the all information is presented there, for instance: image, price, stock, availability, etc. As an example you can check out the following Ecwid store on WordPress site to be sure the data for each product is out there: https://www.thecookiedoughcafe.com/store/

Ecwid’s content is delivered to the pages of the website dynamically by means of JavaScript, so that users can browse the store without the page reloading. Usually, services that use JavaScript have hashbangs (#!) in their links. Here, in Ecwid, we found a solution to display all store links as clean and understandable—with our plugin SEO-friendly URLs are available to you out of the box.

The meta tags are generated according to the product and category details: the product name is added to the title tag, the product description is included to the meta description. Ecwid also allows adding custom <title> and <description> tags. This can be done right in Ecwid Control panel > Catalog > Products > click “Edit Product”.

We automatically generate ALT-tags (from product titles) for images to explain images to search engines. There are so-called og-tags like og:locale, og:site_name, og:type, og:title, og:description, og:url. These tags make your store content more “attractive” for the search engine crawlers as well.

With our plugin there is also an option to generate the Sitemap for the store which is added to a WordPress website. This can be done with the help of special plugins such as Google XML Sitemaps or Yoast SEO. All the store pages will be included to the sitemap and then it can be successfully added to the Google Search Console.

So, all essential things necessary for SEO optimization are included in our plugin for WordPress and all this works out of the box. As a result, all Ecwid stores are indexed by search engines as good as other e-commerce plugins for WordPress.

As for our multilingual feature. Ecwid storefront is professionally translated into 50 languages. When you use our plugin, your WordPress website sets the default language the store is displayed on. If you’d like your store to be translated to different languages automatically, your WordPress site itself should support multiple languages. You can create a multilingual WordPress site and add a language switcher to it using one of the popular plugins, e.g. WPML or Polylang plugins (Ecwid is compatible with any of them and other plugins)—their language switcher changes language not only for the site, but for your multilingual Ecwid store within it, too. Your Ecwid pages will have different URLs based on the language, Ecwid will add the necessary ‘hreflang’ tags to the source code of each page, thus Google will recognize all language versions. As a result your customers will shop with you in their preferred language and Google will index your store pages accordingly.

Hope this clarifies. If you have any issues with the indexation of Ecwid store on your WordPress site, please, let us now the URL of your store. We’ll carefully analyze the SEO of your website and provide you with all possible solutions. Feel free to contact us directly at [email protected]. Our Customer Care team will be happy to help you with any requests you may have. Thank you!
