• We’ve been using Simple History and Activity Log for a while now at the same time. A few days ago we had an external developer on our platform, but none of the developer’s work showed up in Simple History nor in Activity Log. Even not a not registrated user – and he had admin access. how do you see it? How can it be that there are no logs to be found here? The freelancer did not have access to the database via FTP. Is that because he is using VPN and a browser in private mode? He was in for sure, the work was done. But no record! Thanks for a feedback!

VPN or private mode in the browser does not affect what changes Simple History detects.

I does indeed sound strange that none of the developers work did show up. Did you create their user and did that show up in the log? And does all your work show up in the log? If they have no access to the files or the db I’m not sure how they could have bypassed the log.

Yes, otherwise all activities are logged. The earlier activities of this freelancer were also documented. But when we didn’t see any logging after the last intervention, we got suspicious. I.e. even in your professional opinion it would only be possible to make this logging disappear if you have access to the database?

It’s difficult to say. If a developer can upload plugins or edit files using the admin they could modify something thay way (disable logging or remove items from the log).

You are 100 % sure that they did something on the server/site you are logged into? And they did not for example disable Simple History from the plugins page and then enabled it again? What happens if you log in as them (if you can set the password for example), do your edits as that user get logged?

many thanks for your response! And please excuse the delay. We have now logged in like an external user with admin rights and tried various things. We found that your logging mainly saves measures that are triggered by a save process. For example, when we went to data for the customer to have a summary of the downloads sent to us by e-mail, we were able to use the admin function to download the customer data without your log seeing it. So we have a clear answer.

And one more thing: our security software registered all of these processes in our test. So a clear fact that not all processes on our platform are registered by your software. We remain your enthusiastic customer!

The plugin catches changes in most part of WordPress built in functionality. Is the download section with emailing functionality you mention perhaps part of another third party plugin? Then Simple History does not know how to log things that happen in that plugin by default.
