  • We just installed 3.1.9 on gomerblog.com about 20 minutes ago after entering our new Facebook access token and we still haven’t seen updated share counts yet. We cleared caches as well. Hopefully it picks them up soon

    Still nothing after 90 min. Will double check again later.

    Thanks

    @puda you can enable large buttons again. Just go into VISUAL settings. There you find a new option for the button size.

    Rene,
    We are looking good now with accurate share counts. It looks like it just took a few hours to catch up but now we are good. Thank you for fixing this

    Hey Rene,

    Yes it took 5 hours and now it’s working yeah!

    So can you explain why we need to use a token and why it had to be tied to our personal Facebook account? What if you don’t use Facebook? Or o mean you don’t have a Facebook account. Also, what are you doing with the information you get from our Facebook accounts?

    Thanks!!

    @puda;
    It is used to increase Facebook’s rate / request limit. Unfortunately it is new Facebook’s rules. Public API has very, very limited request limit so this caused a lot of problems such as shares are not being updated.

    Once you authenticate the application with your Facebook account, imagine it like requests are sent through your account. This way Facebook knows it is not a public request but it is a request done by one of its users so the limits are increased.

    What did this change for Facebook
    * FB knows how much a user should request / what should be the limit for that user.

    * FB also lowers the traffic / load to their servers thus reducing their costs.

    All we can do is to follow their new rules and adjust the plugin to suit to their rules while providing best experience for users / website owners.

    @rene
    Just wanted to report that after entering our Facebook App ID and FB Account key all the share counts are up-to-date!

    Thanks again for addressing this quickly!
