• Only the “add media” button is appearing in the post edit, clicking it does nothing. The tex/visual tabs are there, but clicking them does nothing. The editor is not loading, using Chrome or Firefox, with all plugins deactivated. I’ve downloaded a fresh copy of wordpress to overwrite, it does nothing. What could be causing this? At one time I was getting a tinymice error message, can’t remember what it was, but I haven’t gotten the message for days.

    Check your browser’s error console. Any javascript related errors?

    I appear to be experiencing a very similar error.

    Whether I click on “Add New” or “New–>Post”, the new post page is not fully loading. I was shocked by the very different appearance of the page.

    More specifically, while there is a “Title” field where I can enter my post title, there is no text area where I can actually enter my content. Right below the “Title” field, there is “Permalink: ?preview=true” — no actual URL shows, as it normally does — and directly below that are the “Discussion” and “Comments” areas of the page.

    Neither is there an “Add Media” button or editor toolbar below the title.

    Also, on the far right side, both the “Categories” and “Tags” sections are missing as well. It only shows the “Publish” and “Format” areas on top, and then the “Sharing” and “Featured Image” sections below that.

    Now what is truly strange about this, is the fact that if I go to edit a previously published post, all of the aforementioned areas are there where they should be. It appears that it is only on the New Post/Editor page where everything is missing. In fact, to verify this, I went to a few previous posts to edit them, and all the edit pages appear just fine.

    This is the first time I have tried to post a new message on my blog in three days, which is why I was so shocked by its appearance.

    I am wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that I believe I accepted your invitation to try out the Gutenberg block editor.

    Is there a way to go back to the original editor?

    BTW, I am using WP 4.9.8 on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 on an old 24″ iMac.

    Do you need my blog URL?

    UPDATE
    ======

    I just realized that I already have your “Classic Editor” plugin installed. I guess I forgot that I had installed it. At any rate, it is set to “Replace the Gutenberg editor with the Classic editor.”

    Despite deactivating this plugin, and then reactivating it, in both cases — with it activated or deactivated — my new post page still appears the same, with all of the missing areas.

    I have no idea how to proceed to fix this. When I made my last post three days ago, everything was fine.

    Please advise. Thanks!

    I thought this image might help to resolve this issue:

    UPDATE #2
    =========

    Okay, I was just reading the information on this page: How to Enable/Disable Gutenberg

    While the information there is a bit outdated, it did cause me to have another look at Settings –> Writing –> Writing Settings

    Under that, there are two options:

    ? Replace the Gutenberg editor with the Classic editor.

    ? Use the Gutenberg editor by default and include optional links back to the Classic editor.

    Regardless of which one I choose, my “new post” page still remains the same with the missing areas.

    It appears that I can no longer update my previous comment, so let me just add a third update here:

    I just deactivated all 29 installed WP plugins. Even with that done, the “new post” page anomalies continue to occur, so it is obvious that something else is causing this problem.

    To clarify, my blog home page looks fine. All previous posts look fine, and I am able to edit them with all page sections intact. My media library looks fine.

    While I can go to the “new post” page, as I have already explained, I am simply not seeing all of the sections of the page. I have no idea what might be causing this.

    Any ideas?
