I used the “Google XML Sitemaps” plugin and recently started using WordPress SEO by Yoast and I’ve noticed the Yoast plugin seems to have a sitemap generator built in – can I simply delete the “google XML Sitemap” plugin and leave sitemap generation all up to the Yoast one? Can I have both plugins running together? Lastly: it appears that, instead of creating a sitemap in the root, the Yoast plugin creates multiple sitemaps (which don’t seem to appear when viewing things via ftp)… why make more than one? And why doesn’t it create a sitemap.xml file in the root?

Sorry to bother you (I can imagine you get a lot of questions already..), but I’d really like a quick reply to this if at all possible.

    Best,
    Brin

  • I think the above questions are valid and me also want some answers on these.

Furthermore I got the problem with Google Webmaster Tools returning 24 errors in total for the submitted /sitemap_index.xml generated by WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin >
General HTTP error: HTTP 403 error (Forbidden)

Any suggestions on what is causing this would be really appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,

    Best,

    Bill
