    Hello,
I am trying to install Orvis on my own local wordpress instance before pushing it on my website.
One think I do not understand is why I do not see any Social Icons menu location available to place my Social Menu on it ? (as it is the case in this tutorial from wordpress.com available here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/social-links-menu).
Is the theme for .org different from the one for .org ?
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Xavier

  • If you enable Jetpack, it provides the option to have a Social Menu in Orvis ??

Right, Jetpack now activated and I have the Social Menu enabled, thank you ??

But I wanted not to use Jetpack, I do not need it, I have already a gallery plugin for portfolio management… having Jetpack only for those social links is a bit heavy I think…

By the way, Jetpack on mobile is not my cup of tea… not rendering correctly the gallery when rotating the screen…

Jetpack is what the theme uses for its social menu functionality.

As for it being a bit heavy, make sure that you’re only using the Jetpack modules you want.

Most of Jetpack is designed to speed up your site by taking load off of your server, like our site accelerator https://jetpack.com/support/site-accelerator/ or stats https://jetpack.com/support/wordpress-com-stats/ subscriptions https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/ and related posts https://jetpack.com/support/related-posts/ which are all processed on our end (rather than hammering your database as these features traditionally do).

With that said though, the more Jetpack modules you add, the more your site has to initially process, just like it would if you added a separate plugin for the features, so always make sure you’re only using the features you want.

Regarding overall speed and load, here’s an excellent independent report: https://mattreport.com/jetpack-speed/

Interesting readings yes. Thank you for the explanations.

What is your opinion regarding the viewing of a Jetpack portfolio on a mobile phone, mainly when the screen is inverted ?

Overall the design will be up to your theme, but if it’s a properly responsive theme, it should be just fine. ??

Ok James, I think I will manage to get the portfolio working correctly then. Thank you for the support ??
