[NSFW] No "SuperAdmin" After Install … Yikes!

    Well … I “thought” I followed all instructions accurately but I fubar’d.

    I went through the complete process, had one error that the wildcard subdomain couldn’t be found, checked everything and, since the message said “If you think this message is in error ignore and continue. So I did.

    got to the end. Edited my config and htaccess. Logged out as per instructions. But I do not have a Superadmin section in my admin area.

    Any troubleshooting ideas? I know its the holidays, but I was hoping to get this function working for my client before Friday.

    BTW I am using WP 3.0.3 and BuddyPress 1.2.7 if that means anything.

    BTW. If I type a random subdomain like alan.lockedndenied.com I AM directed to the site but when I click “Create Account” it goes back to the default. But, at least, the wildcard subdomains seem to be working.

    Actually, if the wildcards *were* working correctly, you’d be redirected to the signup page if the blog did not exist. So no, it’s not done right.

    I see. I cleared all the data and the SuperAdmin still didn’t display. Came back here to see your reply.

    Sooo… Is it the problem that I did not set the correct redirect when I set up the wildcard SD? Did I mis-translate “add a wildcard subdomain that points to the main installation”?

    I’ll go back and recheck all the steps … I HAD to have missed something. Thanks @andrea_r

    No, the super admin menu check has nothing to do with the wildcard subdomains. ?? (cuz you get it with subfolders)

    Look in your wp-config.php file. Where are your multisite defines?

    If they are underneath / below the line that says “/* that’s all, start blogging */” then that’s your problem.

    Oh Lordy! You gotta have a laugh at this! I sent a support request to the hosting co to change the httpd.conf server file and copied the instructions from WP to them. And they followed the instructions exactly. ServerAlias *.example.com instead of the REAL domain! Oh my. Ya git what ya pay for.
