• It has now been six days since my last request for help from WordPress with my guided transfer and the two-weeks of help is expiring. So far the advice they’ve given actually hasn’t been helpful, but now I need some real CSS help because I screwed something up in the appearance of my sidebar and can’t get it to look the way it did. Any advice? Anyone from WordPress (Paolo or Hew) out there to respond to my request for help. I just have to say, it’s not worth the $119 for the transfer now in my opinion. (I’ll recind that once I get a response.

  • where did you pay this? No one here can charge for that service.
Perhaps you need to be at wordpress.com support forums?

At the bottom of my dashboard for my self-hosted site, which I had transferred by WordPress, the feedback link takes you here. So that’s their problem. I will try the other forum.

Ah, okay that’s a totally understandable confusion. And WordPress.com probably isn’t going to help with the CSS problem (though they do promise “Providing full support for you on your new WordPress installation for a two week period.” so … maybe I’m wrong there). I know that you can’t transfer over premium themes from .com to .org installs, mind you, but obviously

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

WordPress.com is providing the support for the transfer. www.ads-software.com is free support, but volunteer based. If you’d like us to be able to help with your CSS issues, we’d need a link to your site and a better explanation of what’s wrong (cause we don’t know what it SHOULD look like ?? ).

I am having the same problem. I requested a domain guided transfer and they have sent me a note saying it was done but I can’t access it and no amount of notes to WordPress is getting a response. It seems that “support for 2 weeks” isn’t true.

    I can’t access my supposed WP.org account.

    Frustrated beyond belief

You don’t have a www.ads-software.com account. Or rather, you just logged in and posted with it ?? You have a new account on a new server all your own.

You can make a new topic here, all your own, and give us the URL you bought for your hosting, but really, ‘I can’t access it’ is pretty vague for anyone to debug.

I found out from GoDaddy, the new host that my domain is not pointing to them so the WordPress.com account I have been working on has not been guided transferred to you yet.
Seems weird that when you buy a guided transfer you can’t depend on them doing just that – transferring it over.
Regardless, thanks for your response to my pretty vague question. I guess I will need to just keep trying to get WordPress.com to finish what they say they did.

As a mild reminder for people: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

www.ads-software.com – Hosted by WordPress, but not RUN by them persey. We’re all volunteers here, and we can’t access your .com site.

WordPress.com – You get free hosting, no plugins, and you pay extra for a domain.

I found out from GoDaddy, the new host that my domain is not pointing to them so the WordPress.com account I have been working on has not been guided transferred to you yet.

Where did you register the domain? Through WordPress.com or someone else?

I bought the domain package from WP.com. I then asked for and paid for a guided transfer of my account to WP.org at the same time arranging for the domain to be hosted on GD.

Did they send you an email setting up the day/time they’d transfer you over?

I will point out they don’t work weekends there.

Yes on Friday they sent me a notice when they started the transfer and later in the day when they said it was over and operational. But it never was.

They don’t work weekends? I wish they would have said that so I didn’t just get the impression they weren’t responding to all my emails.

Thanks for letting me know that. Good to have you around!

Anytime I’ve sent email on the weekends, I usually get a note reminding me it’s a weekend ??

As much as it sucks, wait till Monday. They should see your reply of ‘It don’t work!’ and get right on it.

Thanks so much for your advice and letting me rant a bit. Good people skills there!

I’m not directly involved with the Guided Transfer department, but I did track down your ticket, and it does look like we replied and took care of this earlier today.

I’ll resend the reply, and if you’re still having trouble, please reply via email.

    Hi James,
I have seen the note so I guess I will have to wait the 24 – 48 hours to see if things changed and are working. Fingers crossed.

To clarify, the 24 – 48 hour time period refers to DNS propagation.

In my experience, it can take domain changes up to 72 hours (though usually much less) to propagate to your ISP. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS cache.

If you haven’t seen the change in 72 hours, you might want to try clearing your local DNS cache: https://www.opendns.com/support/article/68
