No tax calculated for Ireland

    Hi

    I am using Woocommerce Tax to automatically calculate taxes for my webshop, which is based in the Netherlands. I have enabled automatic taxes and it handles things quite well, except for one sale to a customer in Ireland who was not charged VAT, even though they should have been.

    In the logs, I can see that both the address and IP were recognized as IE, yet they were not charged VAT. What I can do to prevent this from happening again in the future?

    To help us look into this a little further could you please send us a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it here in your reply and we’ll be happy to take a look.

    Can you please temporarily disable the plugin WooCommerce EU VAT Assistant

    Then please head to WooCommerce > Status > WooCommerce Shipping & Tax, and enable logging.

    At this point, you can create a test order from Ireland (a VPN might help). Then please share a copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs > select Shipping and tax from the drop down (if any).

    I have disabled the EU VAT Assistant plugin, set my VPN to Ireland and tried to place an order, using an address in Ireland. The first 4 attempts show as follows:

    When I remove the gibberish from the Eircode entry, VAT is calculated again as 0% and the log reads this:

    Meanwhile, I’ve had the same thing happen for a customer in Croatia. The log shows tax is calculated correct at 21%, but a 0% rate is shown on the checkout page. Please find the relevant log below.

    My Ireland server was not connecting just now, but could you also try a conflict check while testing Ireland?

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/check-conflicts/ will allow you to switch off things for your IP only.

    * Connect to your Ireland VPN.
    * Activate and configure https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/check-conflicts/

    Does that change anything?

    Looking at my earlier log, it looks like the optional Eircode is entered in the to_zip field, which seems to me to be incorrect.

    I’d appreciate it if this could be confirmed or denied from your end before I install additional plugins.

    Fwiw, since this thread has now died, I have disabled automatic tax calculation via Woocommerce Tax, instead choosing to populate the tax fields for each country via Update EU VAT Rates in the tax setup dialog. Things now work as expected.

    It looks like the last message was lost and we couldn’t get back to you earlier.

    I am glad to know that you are now able to calculate the tax rates properly. If you want us to investigate the automated tax problem, please create a ticket and we will see why that particular location or customer’s address doesn’t reflect correct VAT in the checkout.
