I make a living developing wordpress websites. I am strongly against merging this into core. Here is a brilliant article on the reasoning: [redacted]

Also, many of my clients never touch their websites. And for me – an experienced dev – it is much more time consuming to use this gutenberg-editor than using the old wysiwyg or the html editor directly.

I can imagine the tons of phone calls of totally lost clients I will get. It will come at great cost (money- and time-wise) for me and for my clients. And I am sure there will be clients that will sacrifice security and just won’t update to save some bucks.

That said, I totally appreciate the direction of a drag and drop page builder. It would be a great plugin, but please don’t force this huge change onto us. Please stay “Clean, Lean, and Mean”.

@xsonic, Thank you for letting us know that Gutenberg was too cumbersome. What areas took the most time? We would love to reduce the amount of steps it takes to get stuff done.
