• For the past 2 years whenever I uploaded an image, wordpress will automatically generate 4 other thumbnails. Lately, all my images uploaded has no thumbnail, not a single one being generated. I tried huge sized ones too but still none generated. Checked my Settings->Media and all numbers are in without any changes. Can anyone help me with this?

Making me crazy. Thank you very much.

  • Hello,

Have you updated WordPress to the latest version? Have you installed any new plugins that may have started causing this? Has your host made any changes that might prevent the generation of thumbnails?

    Hi Steven,
Thank you for your reply. Yes my wordpress, woocommerce and even theme are all updated to latest recently. I also upgraded mysql and php to 5.6 lately. Plugin I have added wordfence and wpsupercache lately too. Didn’t realise that my recently uploaded images did not generate any thumbnails until yesterday. I am totally lost what causes that.

Can you try installing a new WordPress instance in a sub-directory somewhere and upload image there to see if you’re getting the same issue. If you are then it would indicate a hosting issue, maybe to do with the PHP upgrade. If it does work then you can take a closer look at your current instance and see if any plugins are the culprit.

Thank you very much Steven. I managed to figure out, I installed php5-gd but I need php5.6-gd as I am using php5.6. I am confused sometimes between php5 and php5.6 in my system. Wanted to remove php5 but quite worried website will crash. I try php -v command but it shows me error that soap.dll not found. Not sure why also as I have soap5.6 module installed. Sigh.
